Advanced Baseball Program Details

Hendricks Avenue Baseball loves all of the players in our baseball community and strives to provide an atmosphere of inclusion. Our Recreational program provides an opportunity to play baseball to anyone with a desire, regardless of ability.  We do believe that all children are special and deserve a chance to shine when they demonstrate an aptitude for something and a willingness to work hard for it. The essential elements of character-building and ethics at HAB are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and seven pillars of character:

I.  Trustworthiness
II.  Respect
III. Responsibility
IV. Fairness
V.  Caring
VI. Teamwork
VII. Healthy Competition

In that spirit, the HAB Advanced Baseball (AB) program provides an opportunity for some of the league's more “skilled” players with a desire for additional baseball, to advance their skills and to represent our park in games and tournaments against fellow association teams from around the city and state. The program is open for players from 8-13 years old, and is an extension of, and a complement to the recreational baseball program. HAB AB schedules it's activities around the recreational baseball season. A participant in AB is also required to participate with a recreational team during the spring season, NO EXCEPTIONS.

The AB program allows players to advance their skills in a fast paced and challenging environment. The practices are very structured and focused on developing life and baseball skills. We want players who can learn and shoulder team responsibilities and have a drive to develop their skill set. As opposed to our recreational game rules, there are no rotation rules or minimum playing time requirements in AB. Thus, playing time is completely at the discretion of the AB manager for his or her particular team. We believe that healthy competition makes players better, therefore we teach our players to compete on the field during practice and games.

The number of AB teams will depend on the pool of players available for a particular age group and the availability of coaches. For example, if there are not enough 9U kids for their own team, we may combine them with 10U. If a player makes one of the advanced baseball teams, there are additional costs associated with participation in order to cover uniform costs, and umpire and supplies fees.

AB is a precursor to the All-Star tournament season, which begins in mid-April. However, it is not required that your child play Advanced Baseball in order to qualify for Summer All-Stars. AB and All-Stars teams are selected independently from each other.  All-Star teams will be composed of players nominated by the league coaches based upon performance during the recreational season and selected by the Advanced Baseball Director after a separate tryout.  More information on the All-star program will be available on the league website very soon.
